The Rising Bridge Post Office may be about to move

A post office could be open longer as part of a relocation plan.

Bosses have announced proposals to move the Rising Bridge Post Office from its current home in Blackburn Road to Sherfin Corn Mill on the same street.

As part of the move, a convenience store would be incorporated and business hours would be extended to 10 p.m.

The proposed move from 602 Blackburn Road, Rising Bridge, Accrington is with the agreement of the current long-serving postmaster.

A Swiss Post spokesperson said: “We are proposing this move as part of the ongoing modernization of our branch network.

“We believe that introducing a locally styled branch alongside a thriving retail store is the most effective way to safeguard sustainable postal services in the local community in the future.

“The proposed opening hours are Monday to Friday: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“It would be an additional 22 hours of postal service per week for the convenience of customers, including all day Sunday and Wednesday and Saturday afternoons. There would also be an earlier opening and a later closing.

Consultation on the proposed move will end on August 23. Customers can share their views in the online consultation at postofficeviews.co.uk with branch code 366427.
