The Economy of Otley’s Donuts | Bradford Telegraph and Argus

A version of the economic model is launched in the town this weekend as part of the Otley 2030 festival of kindness.

Otley 2030 is working with other groups within the city, as well as with Otley City Council and the University of Leeds, to seek answers on how the city can play its role in the fight against climate change. Donut Economics – which is already in use in cities across the UK and around the world – is seen as a positive and hopeful model.

The Otley version will launch at 2:15 p.m. at the courthouse on Sunday, September 26.

A spokesperson for Otley 2030 said: “A lot of people in Otley are worried about climate change, and we know that doing something about what worries you can be a good strategy for relieving anxiety. useful.

“Donut Economics sounds scary if you don’t know anything about economics, but it’s actually a pretty straightforward concept: we need the people of Otley to see their needs met – we don’t want anybody to ‘fall into it. donut hole ‘hungry or cold, or poorly housed, or without sufficient income or health support.

“But we also need to make sure the city doesn’t overstep its planetary boundaries (the outer edge of the donut) by producing too much emissions, or too much garbage and pollution.

“The Donut Economics National Team has produced a wealth of resources to help towns and villages along this route, including videos of people talking about how they approached the job and what went well. . We know we can count on their support, and the support of the Leeds Donut Economics team based at the University.

“Otley 2030 aims to connect the community, and we want to take as many stakeholders, businesses, advisors and individuals as possible with us on this much needed journey to a safer future. We hope people will come to this inaugural Sunday session and consider being part of the Otley Donut team. ”
