Piers Morgan aims to dethrone Ant and Dec at National Television Awards

Piers Morgan is hoping to end Ant and Dec’s dominance at the National Television Awards (NTA) when they go head-to-head for the award for Best TV Presenter.

he annual ceremony takes place in London on Thursday, with comedian Joel Dommett as host.

The Geordie Ant and Dec duo have won the award for Best TV Presenter for 19 consecutive years, but Morgan aims to dethrone them.

Morgan, who was nominated following a turbulent first half of 2021 that saw him leave Good Morning Britain over inflammatory comments about the Duchess of Sussex, is also against Bradley Walsh and This Morning stars Holly Willoughby and Alison Hammond.

Elsewhere at the NTAs, the three Line Of Duty stars vie for the price of dramatic performance.

Adrian Dunbar (Ted Hastings), Martin Compston (Steve Arnott) and Vicky McClure (Kate Fleming) are all in the running, alongside Olly Alexander for the AIDS series It’s A Sin and David Tennant for Des, a drama about serial killer Dennis Nilsen.

Des and It’s a Sin are also nominated for Best New Drama, alongside Bridgerton and the successful adaptation of Sally Rooney’s novel Normal People.

Line Of Duty, Call The Midwife, Unforgotten and the lavish royal series The Crown were nominated for the return of the dramatic gong.

Caroline Flack: Her Life And Death, a documentary about the late Love Island presenter, is up for the factual prize.

The NTAs will be broadcast on ITV at 7:30 p.m. from the O2 Arena in London.
