Nippon Telegraph and Telephone: NTT and Genesis Healthcare enter into capital and commercial partnership

Tokyo – August 8, 2022 – NTT Corporation (NTT) and Genesis Healthcare Co. (Genesis Healthcare) have entered into a strategic business partnership, with NTT acquiring shares in Genesis Healthcare1.

NTT, a recognized leader in IT infrastructure and services, aims to become the engine of Smart Healthcare in Japan. The partnership with Genesis Healthcare will accelerate the acquisition, analysis, use and distribution of medical and healthcare data, including genetic data.

Committed to making a meaningful impact on people’s lives, the partnership between NTT and Genesis Healthcare will leverage the two companies’ vast knowledge and expertise in technology, genomic science and data to build a healthy society that respects humanity and mutual diversity, where everyone can access personally optimized precision healthcare.

Together, NTT and Genesis Healthcare will combine their respective expertise and collaborate in the following areas:

Promotion of joint research using genetic data:

Genetic data is increasingly used in R&D to improve healthcare and medical care, including drug development and the elucidation of disease risks. The two companies will promote joint research and development based on genetic data, health checkups, life diaries and other data held by the companies, focusing on more than one million Japanese people. By providing statistical data to third-party research institutes, the two companies will help advance healthcare and medical care to realize precision medicine and services.

Collaboration in genetic testing and analysis:

Using its expertise in genetic data analysis, Genesis Healthcare will work with NTT to create a society where individuals can receive optimal care based on their data. Genesis Healthcare will provide genetic testing and other genomics-related services, including health maintenance, understanding disease risks, health counseling and lifestyle modification.

Establishment of a joint steering committee:

To keep pace with the rapid evolution of technologies and social norms, a joint steering committee will be created to stimulate synergies between companies and create specific policies and measures to promote cooperation on ethical, legal and social issues. .

1NTT entered into a share purchase agreement with existing shareholders of Genesis Healthcare on August 8, 2022 to acquire 41,269 shares of Genesis Healthcare (representing 19.3% of the total number of issued shares). NTT will appoint a non-executive director to the board of directors of Genesis Healthcare.
