New Lifecycle Assessment Confirms Clover Imaging Printer Cartridges Have Lower Environmental Impact Than OEM Cartridges

Chicago, Ill.— Today, Clover Imaging Group, a global leader in environmentally responsible printing and imaging solutions, announced the completion of a new Life Cycle Benchmarking (LCA) assessment that evaluated cartridges from remanufactured toner cartridges from Clover Imaging compared to their original equipment manufacturer (OEM) counterparts from the cradle to – serious perspective. This peer-reviewed LCA was conducted by Aspire Sustainability, a leader in performing innovative LCA studies with a portfolio spanning over 50 product and technology categories.

Based on the environmental indicators evaluated, Clover Imaging remanufactured black and color toner cartridges were found to have lower environmental life cycle impacts than their OEM counterparts in all statistically significant impact categories studied. Sensitivity and uncertainty analyzes indicate that the results were robust to key assumptions and are statistically distinct.

When analyzing the full life cycle of a Clover Imaging remanufactured black printer cartridge (200891P) against the OEM equivalent cartridge (HP CF226A), the key findings were as follows:

  • 53% less carbon footprint
  • Energy footprint reduced by 59%
  • 52% less impact on natural resources
  • 66% less impact on human health

The results for the color cartridges were comparable and are included in the study linked below.

Eric Martin, President of Clover Imaging Group, said of the study findings: “When we talk to sustainability and procurement leaders across industries, the number one question we get asked is: “How will Clover Imaging’s remanufactured printer cartridges reduce our carbon and energy footprint?” This updated LCA allows us to confidently quantify the carbon footprint and energy expense reductions an organization will achieve by switching from our OEM cartridges to our cartridges. This is a game-changer for companies and organizations that have mandated sustainability initiatives. »

Keli Posch, Director of Marketing and Sustainability at Clover Imaging, added: “Over the past 18 months, we have seen the circular economy model gain rapid momentum. The growing consensus within the environmental community is that recycling plastic simply won’t solve the environmental challenges we face and that we need to focus more of our efforts on reuse. This LCA confirms that Clover’s circular business model of reusing an OEM plastic shell multiple times through remanufacturing is environmentally superior to molding and manufacturing new cartridges, even when those new cartridges use a high percentage of recycled plastic content.

Over the next few months, Clover Imaging will provide its reseller partners with educational training and a suite of end-user marketing assets to communicate the impactful results of this study.
